Journeys into Journalism

Hello! It has been a WHILE. I've been so busy at uni and in life over the past few months, the blog has (blatantly) fallen to the bottom of the priorities list. But, I'm taking the opportunity of a break between essays and revision to update you on some exciting film-related things I've gotten up to over the past month!

As part of the uni magazine The Orbital, I had the super-exciting opportunity to go to a press screening of The DUFF on 25th March - considering it didn't come out in the UK until 10th April that's pretty cool!
(I'm not intending to review the film on the blog as my article is exclusive to The Orbital.)
I went up to 20th Century Fox House in Soho Square for the screening, which was held in a luxurious yet comfy screening room; roomy chairs, perfect lighting, the LOT. It was a really funny, quirky high school chick flick that I think some guys would like too, depending on their sense of humour.

As well as the preview screening, which was such a privilege all by itself, I was told last-minute that I would be able actually interview one of the actresses who star in the film, Bella Thorne... HOW. AWESOME. Me, talking to a movie star, in a professional and not fangirl context!! The interview took place at The Corinithia Hotel on Embankment (v. fancy, let me tell you now) in the form of a round table: this means that there are group of journalists all asking questions at the same time. I was in a group of nine and we had fifteen minutes total. This obviously means there isn't a lot of time to ask what you want/need - because I didn't know It would work like this, I was not prepared to be cutthroat and didn't get any of my questions in. But, never fear! I simply recorded the whole thing on my phone #smartcookie. It was totally fine, and I was able to put the article together with it sounding like I had interviewed her myself.

The whole experience was such a learning curve; yes it was exciting, but the satisfaction I got from submitting the article to my editor after trekking all over London for it and then piecing it together as something suitable for print was such a rush. It made me consider whether or not I'd actually seriously think about trying to work in film journalism... I think at the very least it's something I'm going to explore, potentially, maybe; things like work experience, freelancing, writing this blog, they're all things I'm going to try to keep up with or investigate so I can find out more. Eeeeek, I love it when new projects come along and new possibilities open up - I'll let you if anything comes of it!

RK.

P.S. I have already made a tiny step in this direction, but it's very uncertain so sssshhh...
