Blogmas Day Nine // Books This Christmas

UPDATE
Some of the font sizing is a bit off in this blog post, I've tried to fix it a million times but it won't work, sorry!

As I work at Waterstones*, I thought it would be a good idea to put my expertise to the test and suggest some possible bookish pressies you might like to buy, or ask for, this Christmas!

Children's Books
I've gone into a bit more detail on the ideas for children's gifts because knowing what to get for little cousins, the tiny tots next door or those family friends who, you're not entirely sure any more how you met them but somehow ten years down the line you're still trying (and struggling) to find presents for them and their offspring... Anyway, I hope this helps!

The Classic Gift
The Fox and the Star (Hardback)
The Fox and The Star by Coralie Bickford-Smith
This beautifully bound and exquisitely illustrated hardback will make the most perfect gift for any child this Christmas. The story is so imaginative and touching, magical even, and for the adults reading it to their little ones as a bedtime story, it will evoke the fairy-tale world of childhood.
I would most likely recommend this book for children aged 2 to 8, but even those up to the age of 11 may be enchanted by this. For those with under-2s, this book would make a lovely keepsake present. (It has also won the Waterstones Book of the Year Award, so there's plenty of people out there who would heartily second my recommendation!)

The Read-It-Yourself Gift

The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas (Paperback)
The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter

As the name suggests, this is a great one for younger kids! Especially those who are starting to read for themselves but not quite ready for a full novel. The boys from McFly have had great success with their The Dinosaur That Pooped... series, giving the kids a giggle as well as the inner child in all us grown ups! I would recommend this book for children aged 2 or 3 to 7.

The Fireside Story
Christmas with the Savages - A Puffin Book (Paperback)
Christmas with the Savages by Mary Clive
A truly cosy, simply heart-warming children's novel, originally written by Mary Clive based on real-life events from the Edwardian era, this book was recently commissioned for republication by Clive's family. From beautiful cover to beautiful cover, the pages of this book will fill even the most reluctant little reader with Christmas spirit! Recommended for ages 7 to 12.

For the Tricky-To-Buy-For Teenagers
Let it Snow (Paperback)
Let It Snow by John Green and other authors

John Green is an ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE among the teenage generation at the moment, and the stories in this selection should prove to be the same. Written by Green himself as well as some of his authorial contemporaries, these short romantic tales will keep those minds entertained and hopefully away from glaring phone and tablet screens, for a few hours on Boxing Day at least!
Suitable for ages 12 to 17 (and over!)
