So, I was browsing the interwebs for inspiration for Blogmas posts, and while on IMDb I noticed that quite a few actors from TV shows I love have their birthdays today!
So, I thought I would talk a bit about those shows, okie?
Alfred Enoch, How To Get Away With Murder
(portrays "Wes Gibbins")
I'm starting with this one because I'm new to the HTGAWM bandwagon, having only watched the first season and only very recently (possibly all in the last two days... Don't judge me, you know you've all stayed up til 3am watching Netflix). But. Though I may be new, I LOVE IT. It's so intense and cleverly shot and structured and so well-written. We all know that exec producer Shonda Rhimes is queen of a bit o' dramatic telly (I've seen every episode of Grey's Anatomy and I have a love/hate/addict relationship with Scandal, currently ploughing through Season 3) so for this to be utterly brilliant comes as no surprise. I'm just silently crying at how I have to wait for the second season...
Lucy Liu, Elementary
(portrays "Joan Watson")
I have a bit of a strange situation going on with Elementary because I've seen most of the second and third seasons, but never the first (despite owning it on DVD - I intend to rectify this over the holidays) and didn't realise season 4 was currently on until a few weeks ago. That said, I mostly love it, the third season lost it a bit with a storyline that most of the fandom was NOT a fan of, so hopefully they've brought it back with the new episodes. I like the NYC setting, I like Watson as a woman, I know it's true to the original books or the same style as the BBC's Sherlock, but wouldn't TV be boring if every show was the same? I guess this is the show I love that everyone loves to hate...
Joe Lo Truglio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(portrays "Charles Boyle")
This show is FUNNY. I could leave it at that really, it's the key information in a nutshell. If you like a good laugh, then this is for you. But it's more than that, too. You slowly begin to love the stupid characters, wish you be part of their squad and root for the schoolyard romance oh-so-subtly woven through the centre of the show. It's no surprise that this quick-witted precinct sitcom won two Golden Globes in its debut year. A little gem, with a cult following, whose return to screens I'm eagerly awaiting...
Brendan Coyle, Downton Abbey
(portrays "John Bates")
I love Downton and I'm BEYOND sad that it's ending! The current series (the sixth) is its final, and I'm saving it all to catch up with in my Christmas holiday, curled up with a mug of tea and twinkly lights all around. May e beause the show is so quintessentially British, I don't feel I can do it justice as a viewer if I watch it without a cup of tea and some sort of baked goods to accompany the inevitable gasps and sobs that are ellicited by Julian Fellowes' writing, the sumptuous shots and sets and the heart-wrenching performances from a stellar cast. I can't wait to see what they'll all get up to next...
And finally...
Jana Kramer, One Tree Hill
(portrayed "Alex Dupre")
Right in the feels.
Anyone else feel the gaping hole left by OTH in their lives on a near-daily basis? No? Just me? Okay then...
That's all for today! Do you watch any of these shows? Are there any you love, or even hate?
RK.
